Industrial automation is automation in industry. Automation is mainly used in the manufacturing industry. The most well-known are robots and sawing machines.

The reasons for automating are very extensive:

• Take over (in)human tasks
• Increasing quality or accuracy
• Increase productivity
• Preventing dangerous situations

Industrial automation consists of hardware and software. Hardware is the physical component and software is the program constructed through logical functions. The software uses the hardware and runs on a controller or PLC (Programmable Logical Controller). BeLogic is standardized on Siemens PLCs, but we also program in other brands.

In Industrial automation a distinction is made between:

• Process automation
• Factory automation

Process automation is very similar to Factory automation, but it mainly distinguishes itself in the type of industry, such as refining, chemical reactions, …

These are usually continuous processes in hazardous or non-hazardous environments (risk of explosion). Pumps, valves, PID controllers and pressure and level measurements are mainly used for this.

Factory Automation is the manufacture of parts, manipulations, packaging and printing. The parts used are (servo) motors, pneumatic cylinders and sensors. The response times are often much higher than in process automation.
